DSIC 10th Assembly

The Dominican Sisters International Conference (DSIC) held its 10th Assembly in person in Rome from May 11th to 16th. The gathering, entitled “Widows & Midwives… Where Past & Future Meet…”, brought together 125 prioresses, delegates, and guests representing the 144 Dominican Sisters member congregations from five continents. The days were filled with inspiring and hopeful conversations about the present and future, balanced by prayerful moments of contemplation, creating a smooth and joyful experience for all.

The assembly commenced with an address from Sr. Margaret Mayce, OP, Amityville, the DSIC International Coordinator. In a Vatican News interview, Sr. Margaret shared her analysis of the current state of Dominican communities worldwide. She highlighted the challenges of declining young vocations and an increasing number of older sisters, which necessitates difficult decisions such as mergers, the appointment of commissioners, and the development of new governance models grounded in trust and faith.

Sr. Margaret emphasized that “pain, change, and hope are part of our reality.” She further underscored the importance of cultivating fidelity to the Gospel, caring for our sisters, and supporting new generations in their vocations to ensure the continued vitality of our broader charism. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Sr. Margaret on her reelection as the DSIC coordinator for the 2025–2028 term. The Master of the Order, Fr. Gerald Timoner, OP, also joined the sisters for the closing Mass.

In the coming weeks, Sr. Margaret will be sharing a summary of the key conclusions from this Encuentro. Please stay tuned for that update!

Blessings,
DSC
